Residential Dumpster Rental across Jacksonville and Northeast Florida
Homes around here vary enough that one container does not fit all of them. An older lot in Riverside or a tight drive at the Beaches wants a 10 or a 15 and a driver who takes it slowly. A newer subdivision in Nocatee, Fleming Island or Fruit Cove may have room for a 20 — and an HOA with its own covenants. A bigger lot out toward Baldwin, Callahan or Middleburg has room for anything. The first thing we ask on the phone is what your driveway looks like.
Most residential jobs are one of three things: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, or a whole house before a move or a sale), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring, roof), or the yard — landscaping, a tree coming down, storm cleanup. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, the home cleanout guide covers the planning, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container
Garage, attic and estate cleanouts lead the way: furniture, mattresses, boxes, household junk, the contents of a storage unit. Kitchen and bath remodels are next — cabinets, tile, drywall, flooring. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof, an old deck or fence, a landscaping redo, storm limbs.
Regular pickup is not built for any of that. In Jacksonville, curbside service takes building material from your own work only in small amounts — up to 1 cubic yard a week in non-automated areas, or 2 cubic yards every other week where the automated trucks run — and any debris from work a contractor did has to be removed by the contractor (Ordinance Code Sec. 380.207). Tree waste cut by a tree service is not the City's to pick up either (Sec. 380.206). Beyond those amounts, the City's own advice is to hire a company to provide a construction debris container. That is what a residential roll-off is for.
Driveway placement, street rules and HOAs
On your own driveway in Jacksonville we found no City permit rule for a roll-off. Protective boards can go under the container on request, and the driver sets it where you want to load it — on a flat, stable surface, clear of wires and branches. The street is another matter. Ordinance Code Sec. 744.110 makes it unlawful to block, obstruct or place any material on or in a City road, right-of-way or easement without a permit from the Director of Public Works. That Right-of-Way permit costs $127 for a residential job ($191 commercial), the fee doubles if the work starts before the permit is issued, applications go through the City's JaxEPICS system, and an approved Maintenance of Traffic plan is needed for anything that affects vehicles or pedestrians. Working without one can mean a fine of up to $250, with each day a separate offense.
A few more things. State roads belong to FDOT, not the City — Edgewood Ave N in front of our own yard is SR 111 — and FDOT's rules give no permit path for a roll-off on a state right-of-way, so the box stays on the property. HOA covenants can cover containers on your lot, so check yours before a longer rental. And the other towns differ: Atlantic Beach needs written Public Works consent for a roll-off in the right-of-way and never allows one on a paved road overnight (City Code Sec. 16-8(d)(5)), Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach require a right-of-way permit (Sec. 28-20; Sec. 18-4), and Fernandina Beach wants a temporary use permit even on private property (LDC Sec. 5.02.06). Each town page says what that town's code asks for.

Residential dumpster rental — the Florida specifics
Florida keeps a short list of things out of its landfills, and a mixed roll-off load ends up at one. Lead-acid batteries, used oil and white goods — discarded air conditioners, heaters, refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers and other large appliances — may not go in a landfill (F.S. 403.708(12)), and a store that sells car batteries has to take your old one as a trade-in when you buy a new one. Whole tires may not go in a landfill or a C&D facility (F.S. 403.717(3)(c); FDEP Rule 62-701.300(8)(b)). Rechargeable batteries — power-tool, laptop and small sealed lead-acid packs — may not go in a mixed trash stream (F.S. 403.7192(3)). Mattresses and electronics are not on the state's ban list, though FDEP strongly recommends recycling TVs and computers. Where the banned items go instead, for Duval residents: paint, chemicals, fuel and propane tanks, used oil and filters, batteries and fluorescent bulbs to the City's Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 2675 Commonwealth Ave, Tuesday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., free; up to four standard tires and major appliances to curbside pickup by appointment through 630-CITY. The what can and cannot go in guide covers the rest.

Answers
Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We take care with placement and pickup. Ask for protective boards under the container and they go down. Tell us before delivery if a surface worries you — fresh concrete, pavers, a cracked slab, grass or soft ground — and we will plan around it.
Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?
In Jacksonville, only with a City Right-of-Way permit from Public Works (Ordinance Code Sec. 744.110) — $127 for a residential job, doubled if the work starts first, with a Maintenance of Traffic plan if it affects traffic or pedestrians. On a state road the right-of-way is FDOT's, and there is no FDOT permit path for a roll-off. The driveway is always simpler.
Does my HOA have a say?
On the driveway, often yes. Covenants can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book, especially for a longer rental.
Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?
No. Fridges, freezers, ranges, water heaters and air conditioners are white goods, and Florida bans them from landfills (F.S. 403.708(12)(d)). Duval residents can book a curbside appliance pickup through 630-CITY, or let our junk removal crew take them to recycling.
How long can I keep the container?
Most standard rentals include 7 days. If the job runs on, call before the pickup date and we can usually extend it for an additional daily or weekly fee. If you finish early, we pick it up early.
Do you serve outside Jacksonville?
Yes — sixteen more towns and communities across Duval, Clay, St. Johns and Nassau counties, from Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra to Orange Park, Middleburg, Yulee and Fernandina Beach. Each has its own page, and each says plainly what that county or town requires of a hauler and of a container in the street. We are licensed and insured.
