The 30 yard container in Jacksonville
The 30 yard takes up the same 22 by 7.5 feet of ground as the 20 — the extra volume is all height. That makes it the natural pick when a job makes a lot of bulky debris but the site has no more room: a multi-room or full-home renovation, an estate or foreclosure cleanout, a commercial remodel with shelving, displays and partitions, light demolition, or a community or HOA cleanup. It still fits on many residential and commercial properties. It holds about nine pickup loads, or roughly 170 to 190 trash bags.
The sides are six feet high, so most of what goes in is carried or thrown rather than tipped from a wheelbarrow. Contractors with a crew do not mind; a homeowner working alone may prefer a 20 and a swap.
Big renovations, cleanouts and commercial remodels
Taking a house back to the studs fills a 30 in a hurry: the cabinets, the doors, the drywall and flooring from every room. Estate and property cleanouts land here too — furniture, boxes and household junk — and so do commercial remodels with shelving and fixtures, and light demolition with doors, windows and framing.
Knocking a building down takes paperwork before it takes a dumpster. FDEP wants a Notice of Demolition at least 10 working days before the start date for demolitions covered by the federal asbestos rule — even when no asbestos is found — and in Duval County it is filed with the City's Environmental Quality Division, Air Quality Branch (904-255-7100). Most homes of four or fewer units are exempt, unless they are part of a bigger project, were used commercially, or are coming down to make room for a commercial building. We will ask what the building is before we quote.
Weight, swaps and long jobs
About four to five tons — 8,000 to 10,000 pounds — is included. Jobs that run for weeks usually go on a swap or rotation schedule: we pull the full one and drop an empty, so the site never waits. Tell us how long the job runs and we will set the rhythm. Keep the load below the top rail and spread it evenly; separating especially heavy debris keeps the weight in check.
Suitability
Is the 30 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 30 yard for
- Full-home and multi-room renovations
- Estate, property and foreclosure cleanouts
- Commercial remodels — shelving, displays, partitions
- Light demolition — doors, windows, framing
- Community and HOA cleanups
Pick a different size for
- Heavy-only loads — concrete, brick, dirt and tile belong in a 10 or 15
- Small cleanouts (you will pay for unused space)
- Sites without room for a 22-foot container and the truck
- Asbestos, paint, oil, fuel, tires, batteries or medical waste
Placing a 30 yard container on a Jacksonville-area property
It needs a flat, stable spot about 22 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, room for the truck to back in, and clear space overhead — no low wires or branches. On your own driveway or lot in Jacksonville we found no City permit rule for a roll-off; in a City street, sidewalk or right-of-way you need a Right-of-Way permit from Public Works (Ordinance Code Sec. 744.110) — $127 residential or $191 commercial, doubled if the work starts first — and on a state road the right-of-way is FDOT's, with no FDOT permit path for a roll-off. Other towns have their own rules — Atlantic Beach never lets a roll-off stay on a paved road overnight and wants it emptied or removed when a tropical storm or hurricane warning covers Duval County, and Fernandina Beach wants a temporary use permit even on private property. Check your HOA too: covenants can cover containers in driveways. Protective boards go under the container on request. Each town page covers its own code.

30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Is a 30 yard too big for a house?
For a normal cleanout, often yes — a whole-home cleanout is usually a 20. For a renovation that strips several rooms, or a whole estate, no — that volume arrives faster than people expect. We will tell you honestly which it is.
Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?
Yes. We pull the full container and drop an empty. Contractors and commercial jobs with ongoing work usually set up the rotation at the start.
How much weight is included in a 30 yard?
About four to five tons, depending on the debris. A 30 full of tile, brick, dirt or concrete can go past that well before it reaches the fill line, so we estimate heavy loads with you up front.
Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?
On your own driveway or lot in Jacksonville we found no City permit rule for a roll-off. In a City street, sidewalk or right-of-way you need a Right-of-Way permit from Public Works (Ordinance Code Sec. 744.110) — $127 residential or $191 commercial — and an approved Maintenance of Traffic plan if it affects traffic or pedestrians. On a state road the right-of-way is FDOT's, and FDOT's rules give no permit path for a roll-off. Tell us when you book and we will tell you where your spot stands.
